Wills Attorney in Orange County

A will states who inherits probate assets, who serves as executor, and — for parents — who you nominate as guardian for minor children. David Dunlap Jones prepares wills, pour-over wills, and codicils for Orange County families for a flat fee.

What a will can (and cannot) do

A will is essential, but by itself it usually does not avoid probate for titled assets. Many clients pair a will with a living trust. A pour-over will catches assets left outside the trust and directs them into the trust through probate if needed.

    Questions

    Frequently asked questions

Do I need a lawyer for a will?

California allows handwritten (“holographic”) wills in some situations, but DIY documents are a common source of signing and wording mistakes. An attorney-prepared will is designed to reduce those risks and the chance of a later will contest.

What if I only need a small change?

A short update can sometimes be done with a codicil to a will. If you have several changes, or the will is older, a new will is often cleaner and easier to administer.
